- Jenny Slate is famous enough for my wife to recognize her at daycare drop-off but not famous enough for me to recognize her for anything, even after consulting the internet. Oh well, still counts.
- Tom Izzo has been the head coach of the Michigan State men’s basketball team for as long as I’ve paid attention to basketball. Biking to lunch on campus, I saw a grouchy looking man who could have been him, then I saw a very tall, very lanky college student next to him wearing a Michigan State jersey, then I was on Google that the team was playing against UCLA the next day, so I decided I was right. A benefit of UCLA leaving the Pac-12 for the Big 10!
- David Choe was seen at our local park with his kids. At this point we have seen him three times, so pretty soon I will move him from celebrity to neighbor status.
- Ed Helms was also seen at our local park with his kids. I’m not even going to provide a link because at this point I assume he is a neighbor. His daughter almost used my Olympic rings and another kid almost climbed a structure while my daughter was on it. One day he will learn we met in 2004 at WUSTL. In the meantime, I think he noticed me taking his picture.
- Me! Not entirely a joke. Twice in one week, first at the doctor’s office in East Hollywood and again leaving a restaurant with my wife in the Arts District, a young person stopped to ask if I was Professor ZST. That is the nickname students give me, and these were former students. Who knows how many times my photo has been taken at a distance.
